Reviews of Bassac Cruise

Our boat sailed shortly after our arrival at Can Tho. A warm welcome from staff with a drink and cool towels on arrival. Our room (on the top deck) was small but perfectly formed - exceeded all expectations. A cosy double room with an orchid on the pillow. Small window, cupboard and double sliding door to wet room with toilet. Very comfortable with aircon. Outdoor dining on the top deck with fantastic food, beautifully presented. There were only 3 other couples although the boat could hold a maximum of 24 people. I think this would e a bit crowded though. As there were only 8 of us there was a lounger each on the deck. You can lounge and doze or watch the scenery from this comfort.
We, a family of 5, shared Bassac I with just one other couple so felt it was our own private cruise. We had a very relaxing two day/1 night trip stopping to visit a local village being guided by a good English speaking guide called Lan. Excellent food included and very comfortable cabins with a quality aircon unit. The stop at the village was a highlight seeing the locals houses and up close to the paddy fields! Also served a huge array of tea, fruit and rice crackers by the local ladies. Great chill! Highly recommend especially for the sunset pictures.
We were greeted with cool towels and drink which was welcome as we had just been on a boat trip. We found our room which we thought was spacious for a boat. It had a small en-suite wet room. The room contained all we needed for our overnight trip. Shortly afterwards the boat got underway we were served with lunch, several courses of nice and tasty food. They catered well for the vegetarian with alternatives for each course including stuffed zucchini flowers, very tasty. After lunch we stopped to walk around an island village. Our guide showed us lots of things and explained it all. We stopped at a house for green tea and fresh fruit and were able to look around the house to see how they lived. Back on board we passed the afternoon evening watching the world go by and observing a lovely sunset. Next morning we woke at 0600 to see the floating market. We then transferred to a smaller boat to see the floating market closer. We stopped to see pineapples prepared and taste them, delicious. The service, food and trip were a clear highlight of our trip.
We cruised up the Mekong from Ho Chi Minh City to Chau Doc aboard this fantastic boat with an overnight on board. It was a a fantastic experience passing villages along the banks and eating remarkable food at mealtimes. The trip round the floating markets in the morning was incredible and gave a true insight into the lives of those living in this part of the Mekong river
