Angkor Wat Discovery Tour
Angkor Wat Tour 3 days Highlights:
With its dramatic silhouette and crown of towering stone pinnacles, Angkor Wat is one of the most famous and recognizable monuments in the world. Yet, as extraordinary as it is, on this special four-day tour you'll soon see that there is so much more to Angkor than just Angkor Wat.
Built during the golden age of the Khmer Empire, Angkor was at one time the heart of the most powerful and advanced civilization in Southeast Asia. Abandoned in the 15th century, Angkor was quickly enveloped by the jungle, its stone halls and shaded shrines remaining only as a site of pilgrimage. 'Discovered' again in 1858 by French naturalist Henri Mouhout, Angkor set fire on Western imaginations, quickly becoming the most famed and romantic 'lost city' in the world.
Assisted by your knowledgeable guide, you'll be taken on a journey of discovery beyond the main sights as we visit some of Angkor's most fascinating, yet least-known temples. You'll walk under the gaze of the enigmatic stone faces in the Bayon, journey into the jungle to Banteay Srei, and slip under the grasp of a strangler fig at the Ta Phrom. Then, venture out to the Tonle Sap Lake, for a boat ride through stilt-villages and flooded forests.
Enjoy evenings in the delightful town of Siem Reap at your choice of hotel, ambling through the narrow lane ways, browsing the arts and crafts local to the region and dining in a number of the town's top spots for traditional Khmer food in exquisite environments.
